Dear Families,
Here I am writing my final blog update for our 2015/2016 school year.  It is with mixed emotions that I write this post.  I am happy to have completed this year seeing all my students diligently grow academically, socially, and behaviourally.  But, I am truly sad that our time together in our learning community is complete.  I will immensely miss each student as they have in their own way brightened my heart and soul with their smiles, enthusiasm, and respect.  Each day, I was greeted with warmth, spirit, and positivity.  I truly am the blessed one.  I would like to thank each of you (parents) for all that you have done this school year to continually support your child in each and every thing that they participated in (E.g., paying for field trips, home reading, word study homework, extra math practice homework, animal and country project, spirit days, Tiffin volunteers, and the list goes on).  As a teacher, I can honestly say, I could not have done it without you.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
If you would like to keep in touch with me, please feel free to email me at pgill@scdsb.on.ca as I would love to hear about your child's summer adventures and beyond!  As a teacher, I hold a special place in my heart for ALL the students I have taught, your child will definitely hold a piece of my heart ... always.  Thank you for supporting my students and myself in all my classroom endeavours, it has meant a lot to me and I cherish your contributions in all that you do!
I want to take this final opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe summer holiday!  Enjoy and seize every moment you can with your dear child!  I will miss them greatly!!!  Take care and keep smiling J

Probability Experiments Continued:
This week, students used spinners to conduct an experiment and communicated their thinking using math terminology.  When they completed their experiment, they explained their results to a peer. I am overjoyed to watch and listen to students communicating using the mathematical processes!  Check us out in action :)

Social Studies:
I would like to celebrate Evelyn for taking initiative to map her own map!  She used the success criteria to help her achieve the learning goal that we have focused on in this unit of study.  I am so proud of her efforts and setting an example for her peers.  Excellent work, Evelyn!  Over the summer, encourage your child to make a map of his / her neighbourhood to share with you.

Thank you Amy for sharing this map with us!
Euro 2016:
Many students in my class are buzzing about the Euro soccer!  As some may know, I'm a huge soccer fan and am excited to see Italy prevail!  Yes, that's my team that I'm cheering for.  Can you tell who Thomas M. is rooting for?  He's actually cheering for 2 teams - Germany AND Poland!  Enjoy tuning into the games and kicking the ball around with your child!  Summer's HERE ... seize and savour this amazing season!!  See you in August!

Dear Families,

I can’t believe this is my second last BLOG POST of the school year!!!  I have thoroughly enjoyed communicating our news and learning with you all (my students’ families).  I thank you for being a regular follower and supporting your child’s learning (E.g., by asking them questions about their week) and reading my thoughts!  It has been a true pleasure writing these posts each week as I get to reflect upon all the neat things we're doing as a class and this brings me immense joy, too!

We enjoyed another jam-packed fun week of exploring, learning, and sharing!  You'll see with the abundance of photos I was able to capture :) Take a moment to find your child's lovely smile, they're precious, aren't they?!  Absolutely!  Enjoy your weekend ... may it continue to be sunny and bright!

Father's Day:
Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful Dads and Grandpas!  I hope you enjoy quality time together as a family.  Your child is so excited to give Dad and Grandpa the personalized card and letter that they created. Each student worked so hard on this during the week, I am so proud of their final products and I am confident you will be, too.  Thank you to all the families who provided a photograph to glue on the t-shirt, it turned out adorable!  I was delighted to see and hear that my students have a special bond with their father, they lit up sharing their favourite memories!  Here are a few pictures of the Father's Day cards that students made ...

Probability Experiment:
This week students worked collaboratively to participate in a variety of probability experiments using coins and dice to see the likelihood of getting heads, tails, and doubles.  They were required to make a prediction prior to completing the task.  Their reactions to when their prediction was right was priceless, so many smiles!  As students played the games, I walked around listening to them communicate their thinking using probability vocabulary such as likely, unlikely, certain, impossible, etc...  Check us out working together to get the job done!

Primary Play Day:
Today was a day of outdoor sunny FUN!  I would like to thank Mr. McMillan's and Mrs. Godfrey's Grade 5 and 6 students for leading, facilitating, and organizing ALL the events / stations for the primary division to take part in.  As you can see below, we had an amazing day playing engaging, meaningful, and exciting games!!  We ended our day in our class community to cool off with a yummy rocket popsicle, mmm :)
