I hope you've enjoyed another work week in the warm temperatures and sunshine! This weekend will be cooler and we will receive much needed rain to help our grasses and gardens grooooow :) Enjoy your weekend with your child doing rainy day activities indoors!
4th Annual E.C.E.S. Spring Fling:
On Wednesday, I put a sticker in your child's agenda with the details regarding our school's upcoming Spring Fling! It will be taking place on Sat. May 14th from 10am - 2pm. Remember all your generous contributions you made for our Gift Basket? Well, it will finally be displayed in our school gym ready and glistening to be auctioned off! Come on out to this event as there will be MANY engaging activities taking place, namely the Student Talent Show!! Fingers crossed that the rain holds off until after the Spring Fling.
Math:
This week, I introduced a new math concept - Fractions. Your child will be learning about halves, quarters, and thirds. Fractions are a part of everyday life. When we share, we usually want to share fairly. I hope you had the opportunity to go over the math note I sent home on Wednesday and try some of the suggested activities with your child. If you have the board game Snakes and Ladders, you may wish to adapt it by including fractions. Suggest: "This time when we roll, we are just going to move half the number of spaces." Below I have posted a Fractions All Around poster that I went over in class. Ask your child about what they learned and to identify the halves, quarters, and thirds from the poster.
Social Studies:
We continue to use our researching skills using non-fiction books, magazines, and the school Ipads to gather, organize, and write down information about our chosen country. Many students are thoroughly engaged in this project and have been actively working hard to understand big ideas about their country such as the population, languages spoken, capital city, the climate, and many other interesting facts. At the end of our data collection, students will compare this information to our country, Canada. Thank you to families who have assisted their child in this learning. Check us out working productively on our reports!
Yearbook Order Form:
On Thursday, I sent another order form with your child about our Yearbook. Ms. McKee our school librarian has extended the deadline for orders to next week May 18th. If families are interested in purchasing this memorable book, please fill out the form with payment in cash or ONLINE. As always, the latter form of payment is strongly encouraged. Thank you in advance for your care and cooperation.

Namaste,
Miss Gill
