Dear Families,

April showers bring May flowers, right?!  We've certainly experienced a mixed bag of temps and weather haven't we?  April 8th and it looks and feels like January?!  I thought we could pack up the winter gear by now and solely focus on rain gear as it's "spring!" Mother Nature will hopefully soon make up her mind :) Since it has been extremely wet, I am encouraging families to provide extra socks and for your child to wear rain boots, and splash pants as the yard has lots of puddles and mud.  Thank you for your continued care and cooperation in this matter.  Enjoy the snowy weekend with your family!

Character Trait of the Month:
This month’s (April) character trait focuses on OPTIMISM – “We believe we can DO IT.  We never give up.” From very early on in our school year, I have encouraged my students to always put in their level four personal best in all their academic, social, and behavioural experiences.  I am never looking for “perfect” only your child’s best efforts.  Again, I am delighted to share that most students do their BEST and listen to my constructive feedback to improve their achievements!

Spring Fling Fundraiser:
On Wednesday, I sent home a yellow note explaining this school fundraiser.  Thank you for taking the time to go over this with your child.  Any big or small donations are appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your help in this endeavour.  All items must be at school prior to April 25th as this is the date the school council  team will be collecting and assembling the  baskets for the Silent Auction.  THANK YOU!!
Please note:  money raised from this will be put towards playground equipment for our schoolyard (hooray)!!

The theme for our gift basket is Healthy & Active Living.  Below are a few suggestions of items to contribute.
We are encouraging items that focus on outdoor spring activities that children can enjoy!
-skipping rope
-sidewalk chalk
-utility balls
-sweat bands
-water bottle
-frisbee
-bubbles

Math Game - Toss & Win:
This week, I introduced a new math game which focuses on addition of double digit numbers.  I have taught the students a variety of strategies to use such as mental math, using hundreds charts, and base-ten blocks.  I have noticed an improvement in their skills and confidence when adding greater numbers.  Please take a moment on the weekend to play this game!  You will need the game board (provided), and 2 counters to toss.

Library Day:
Below are a collection of photos that I took last week when we visited the library.  Day 2's are much anticipated because everyone enjoys seeing, learning and growing from jovial, jubilant Mrs. McKee our school librarian! We like to provide the students the opportunity to snuggle up and read independently, with a buddy, or a group to just READ FOR THE LOVE OF IT!  It was a joy to see and listen to this experience as all students were engaged, excited, and enthusiastic by all the interesting books on display!

Bucket-Filling Moment:
Thank you Ethan W. for making this beautiful art piece for me.  Your time, energy, and love that went into it will be cherished, always!!  You filled MY bucket, kiddo!  I honour YOU.
Thank you Ethan for making my heart SOAR!!
