Dear Families,
Happy April! It was wonderful greeting and seeing your bright eyed and smiling child Tuesday morning after our long weekend! Many students shared through their words and recount writing about their Easter weekend experiences. Sounds like a fun-filled blast was had by all my families!
Easter Recounts:
This weekend, your child has brought home his/her Recount notebook. I am encouraging families to sit down with their child to listen to two written pieces, namely their 'March Break' and 'Easter' Recount. They worked exceptionally hard on these in class and I am proud of their efforts. During Guided Writing, I provided students with feedback to reinforce their stars (things they do well), and offered an arrow (things they need to include next time). Capitalizing at the beginning of sentences and including the correct punctuation in the right spots continues to be an area of need.
Now that we are in the final term, the expectations in writing have increased. I would like to see students independently 'proof-read' their writing and continue asking themselves:
"Does it LOOK right? Does it SOUND right? Does it MAKE SENSE?"
We have been using this strategy (saying) from the beginning of the school year, but now, I'd like to see students go deeper in their thinking to include as much detail in their writing as they can to engage their audience. Enjoy celebrating your child's writing progress! If they require more time to finish their Recount, please provide this for them. Most students are ready to share and were provided with lots of class time to finish this.
New Math Learning:
On Wednesday, I sent home a math note explaining our new unit. The focus will be on addition and subtraction of double digits with and without regrouping. I don't know about you, but when I was a child learning this concept, it was challenging! We will work hard in class to understand and learn it. I am optimistic we can and will :) I am also encouraging families to try some of the activities listed on the math note at home, it will greatly assist your child! Thank you in advance for your support.
Animal Report Presentations:
On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. A's Grade 2 class visited us to watch and listen to our reports! It was a joy to see my students share with such pride. We received positive feedback from Mrs. A's children such as, "Wow, excellent organization! Lots of interesting facts!" It was a meaningful and engaging experience for all! Check out the photographs below to see for yourself :)
